FRIENDLY'S
|
Tuesday 9th October : Against Supernova
|
|
West London 4 - Supernova 4
On Tuesday 9th October Supernova joined us at training for a pre-season friendly.
It was a much-needed chance to get some match practice, try out some divisions, and blow aware a few cobwebs
before the season starts on Sunday. We had a bumper turnout - enough for two whole teams - so swapped our
divisions round every so often.
Supernova went into an early 2-0 lead, but we were able to draw back to 2-2.
And late in the game we were winning 4-3 before Supernova scored to level the scores at 4-4.
As we still had some hall time available, we continued with another mini-game so everyone had a decent
run out.
Many thanks to Supernova for coming over, and for everyone who played last night.

MATCH REPORTS
|
Highbury 1 12-3 West London 1
14 October 2007
WL1 had a tough start against last season's Premiership runners up although the
result doesn't reflect the performance, especially in the second half. We had a
slow start and found ourselves 7-0 down after about 15 minutes, mainly due to some
excellent shooting. Despite high pressure defence from Highbury, we created several
chances but all the shots bounced off the rim until Andrew replied with a long shot.
Highbury then scored a penalty and a running in shot to end the half 9-1 up.
As the game was effectively over, we decided to change things slightly, swapping
the players we marked and taking more risks. This seemed to slow Highbury down and
had the required effect on their goal rate too. Andrew scored another long shot
and James turned his player for a smart goal near the post. Ajith came on for David
and helped shut out their attack for the last ten minutes. The game ended 12-3 but
the second half was 3-2.
Overall, this game was a good wake-up call and showed the level of fitness,
commitment and effort needed to compete in this league. Next week, North Downs 2
in Croydon.

Highbury 3 4-12 West London 2
21 October 2007
The second team are off to a fine start with a well deserved win over handy opposition.
We always looked a threat in attack, and could even have had more goals with sharper finishing.
In defence, we forced Highbury to work hard for their chances and were particularly good in collect.
We began well and were 4-1 up at halftime, although perhaps a bit lucky that Highbury had not made the
best of some running in shots. We felt that Highbury could come back at us in the second half, but a
couple of penalties and few more goals soon put the game beyond doubt at 8-2. And we were comfortable to
the finish, eventually ending 12-4.
Many thanks to everyone who played, and well played all round. Special mention to Paula who did a great
job in her first game for West London.

Chris, Sarah B, Ajith, Paula
